Lotus War #2 by Jay Kristoff

Guysss! Another little piece of news I just found out. Kristoff announced the name of the Lotus War #2! Made a pretty funny post which you can see here. I loved Stormdancer, so I'm super excited for this one :D

So what's the name of the title you ask? It's .....

Let me just say, this title makes me anxious. I have a feeling some very messed up crap is going to happen. With that said, I can't wait! xD

My Thoughts

Oh, Jack...Can't say much without spoiling something. (view spoiler at GR) Don't read that if you plan on reading the book, cause it will spoil it a lot.

I am a bit conflicted over this book. In one hand, I did like the story and how it flowed. I always have liked how it would go back and forth and show what everyone was doing for the battle. My problem was with the writing. 

I read this series a while ago and I don't know if it was Cruz's writing that changed or just me as a reader. I thought the writing was really childish and some parts were so cliche. I couldn't believe they had let her print some of those sentences. 

The ending was another bit that I'm not too sure about. I liked it over all but I would have liked to see it a bit more in depth I guess. Felt a little too rushed. Then there is Oliver. I had liked Oliver since the first book, I don't know what happened in this one. I guess he really did spend way too much time with Kingsley and well, let's just say it only works for Kingsley. And that last page...I don't get it...Would anyone care to clarify? I thought that wasn't a good thing...

If you have been keeping up with the series this is a must read to finally get closure and understand what the hell did happen in Rome. Just going to have to overlook the writing :P

Q: Who is your favorite villain from a book?

Gosh, there are actually quite a few, but the first one that popped into my head is Mr. Verisetti from The Awakening of Ren crown. He has this whole creepy charming thing going on, and you can tell he is bad, but he still helps her, on his terms. If he is already creepy when he is being nice I can't imagine how he would be like when he actually gets angry.

There is also Lothaire, Enemy of Old, from Kresley Cole's IADs series. I love him! He is so calculating and crazy! He is the kind of bad guy that the plan is just crazy enough that it would work for him xD

My Thoughts

Ahh, this book...It was a most definite improvement from Under the Never Sky. We get explanations, and some actual world building, and well in short, shit is getting serious xD

Most of the problems that I had with the first book were addressed here. I still have some questions and I'm still not completely satisfied with the bit that we got about the Aether, but you know what? At this point I'll take it. We actually got to see the inside of a Pod! Woooo.

I was so much more invested with the characters in this book. There was so much self discovery from all 4 of them. Perry finally realizing all of the responsibilities of a Blood Lord, Aria doing what has to be done to save the ones she loves, Roar getting Liv back, and all the sacrifices that go with the decisions that they all ultimately take and the consequences that come with it. 

There was so much going on between all of the characters in this book it was pretty amazing. Even Soren started growing on me. We get to see Cinder really start taking part of the Tides and what his role is going to be in the next one. Actually it should be interesting to see the role of the whole Rhapsody Pod in the next book.

The reason why I had to calm down before deciding to rate this was because of the romance. I was getting so damn frustrated with Perry and Kirra and then Sable and Liv, but I got over that one pretty quick. <spoiler>I refuse to believe Liv is dead. I'm holding firm that we'll be seeing her again.</spoiler> Kirra...I wanted to strangle this girl since she first showed up. I was wishing she got struck by a Aether funnel and turned to ash. As you can see, I really didn't like her, and for damn good reason as we find out later on. She was also necessary for Perry to understand his feelings towards Aria after she left him. And even though I understand that, I still wanted her to dieee xD

All in all, I enjoyed this book tremendously and hope the next one turns out to be a mind-blowing ending :)
