Review Policy

Hi there! If you are considering asking me to review your book, then thank you! It's always nice getting asked to review someone's book. Unfortunately I don't always have the time nor the inclination for certain genres, so I'll be detailing my policy for reviews here.

*Currently Not Accepting Review Requests*

General Info

If am accepting review requests, at this time I'll be accepting mostly Adult books for review. You can reach me through email at allenro711( at) gmail (dot) com.

I accept ARCs or finished copies in either print or electronic format. If it's a novella, I'll be extra selective in accepting it or not as I'm not a huge fan of short stories or novellas, this of course includes anthologies. If the book is part of a series, even if it could be read as a standalone, I'd much rather not read it as such, therefore I'll be needing the previous books in the series.

I will NOT be accepting requests for series longer than 3 books. Too much commitment and time, sorry. Nor will I be accepting requests for audiobooks.

Genres

If your book is in my TBR list then it's a sure bet I want to read it. You could also try perusing my Review Archive to see what I'm mostly interested in.

YA Genres I enjoy and review:

  • Fantasy
  • Urban Fantasy
  • Myth retellings
  • Sci-fi

Adult Genres I enjoy:

  • Fantasy
  • Urban Fantasy
  • Sci-Fi
  • Historical Fiction (non-romance)

I don't mind if the book doesn't necessarily have a happy ending. Any other genre is a no-no.

Reviews

I think the easiest way to know if the type of reviews I write are to your liking is by simply reading a couple of them and deciding on your own. I try to review most of the books from the genres I already mentioned, but I'm quite a moody reader/writer, so that doesn't mean that I will always write one, but I will try my hardest. I will however let you know what I decide to do and whether I actually read it - liked it or not - or DNF'd it and why.

I like to schedule my reviews in advance so if you are requesting a review know that it will not be posted for at least a month or so, so keep this in mind when requesting. My reviews will be posted on Goodreads, Amazon.com and Shelfari. If you would like me to post it somewhere else as well please let me know.

My reviews are honest, which means that if I didn't like it, you'll know it from the review, but this does not mean that I will be nasty, nor disrespectful towards the author. I will always do my best to explain why I didn't like it or if the book simply turned out that it wasn't for me. If I DNF a book I will make it clear and explain the whys as well as where I stopped.

Rating System

From now on (June 10th, 2013) I will be rating books differently. I will no longer be following the star rating system.

How it works:
I'll be rating it based on if I would recommend the book or not and how strongly I feel about it.

These ratings are based on my overall enjoyment of the book and are supposed to give you an idea of how much I'd like to get a friend to read it. These ratings are by no means objective and they will be according to their genre.

Author Interviews/Guest Posts

I'm not a fan of author interviews and for this reason I will only be accepting requests for guest posts. I would be more than happy to host an author here on Unraveling Words :)

I will only be accepting hosting authors whose books I have already read or I'm planning to read. I am not accepting guest posts where the content has already been posted in other blogs.

How to be featured on Unraveling Words?

Just email me with the following info:
  • Your name and title of your book
  • Synopsis of book or link from Goodreads
  • Will you provide a topic or would you like me to pick one?
  • Date you would like to be featured
  • Anything else you would like?

If I'm coming up with the topic for the guest post and I have not read your book yet, I would require a copy of your book at least 1 month in advance.

Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to read my review policy!
