Moving to a new high school sucks. Especially a rich-kid private school. With uniforms. But nothing is worse than finding out the first girl you meet is dead. And a klepto.

No one can see or hear Kimberlee except Jeff, so--in hopes of bringing an end to the snarkiest haunting in history--he agrees to help her complete her "unfinished business." But when the enmity between Kimberlee and Jeff's new crush, Sera, manages to continue posthumously, Jeff wonders if he's made the right choice.

Clash meets sass in this uproarious modern-day retelling of Baroness Orczy's The Scarlet Pimpernel.

My Thoughts

Let me start off by saying this book isn't bad and I also never read The Scarlet Pimpernel. Maybe if I had I would have known what I was getting into. This book was just simply not for me. I loved Pike's Wing series, and was hoping this would be just as good, but it was totally different. Even though it deals with a ghost there isn't much of anything else regarding that paranormal aspect. This book was really more of a contemporary read than anything else and in this case not my kind of read either.

We deal with topics such as addiction in all of its varieties, bullying, kleptomania and the issue of life after death and god. I actually think it was all just a bit too much. The crap that these kids went through was just like WOW and all of it on the same 3 kids. It was just too much. Then there is Jeff who is just the epitome of good, justice and doing what's right. That's not to say this book didn't have it's funny moments, cause it did. It had me laughing out loud at parts, but when everything was done and said it just left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

I went in expecting something awesome in terms of Wings, then revised it to a nice cute romance between a boy and a ghost and you know what? I got NEITHER. This bothers me even more than the topics it deals with. Why you may ask? Cause I just did not like Sera. After all the crap she did now she is just a little innocent angel? No sorry, I just can't buy it. Even though Kimberlee did some really messed up shit and could be an all around b*tch, I could deal with her. She felt real to me, human. Not little miss perfect. I'd also like to add I hadn't realized Jeff was a guy till like well into chapter 2. His voice just didn't sound like a guy, but I guess the name should have clued me in, huh? xD

In the end this book was more about redemption and dealing with the consequences of your actions and taking control of your life with a little romance mixed in. Which in short is not my usual read.

  1. No problem. I seem to be the only one who didn't notice nor liked it. Been seeing quite a few 4 star reviews. If you like contemporary you could give it a try anyway.
